South Korea Postpones Third-Party Payments on Google and Apple Stores

Last week South Korea was reported to be close to passing a new law that would effectively force Apple and Google to accept third-party payments in their app stores.

However, according to the latest reports, the passage of the bill has been delayed.

The reason why the ratification of the bill was postponed was not explained. However the National Assembly Agenda mentions other bills except this and it also appears that a new voting date for the bill has not yet been set.

The implications will be enormous if this bill is passed. For about a decade Apple and Google have been running their own app stores the way they wanted.

Where developers have little choice but to agree to the 30% cut Apple and Google are taking from sales and in-app purchases.

Recently, developers like Epic have sued Apple for the 30% cut and there is discussion that other governments are considering similar bills.

Since then Apple has tried to placate the public by announcing some changes to its policy in which developers can now advertise alternative purchasing methods that some say are still not good enough.
