HDMI 2.2 Final Specification Announced - Supports Resolutions Up to 16K

The HDMI Forum has announced the final specification for HDMI 2.2, which was announced last January. As announced five months ago, HDMI 2.2 will support video transmission up to 16K 60p resolution. This is possible because HDMI 2.2 has a bandwidth of 96Gbps which is twice as high as HDMI 2.1.

In addition, 12K 120p, 8K60p 4:4:4 and 4K 240p 4:4:4 video resolutions at 10-bit and 12-bit color settings are also supported. Also finalized is support for Latency Indication Protocol (LIP), dynamic HDR, Source-Based Tone Mapping (SBTM) and enhanced eARC. For gamers, VRR, ALLM, QFT, Quick Media Switching (QMS), and power over HDMI are also improved.

HMDI 2.2 cables will have Ultra96 HDMI branding and will need to have a QR code that people can scan to ensure they pass the standard before purchasing.
