Apple is reportedly already planning a successor to the iPhone SE 2020 that will be launched in the first half of 2022. The phone, now called the iPhone SE 3, will reportedly use the A14 Bionic chip, similar to that used in the iPhone 12.
Rumors about the iPhone SE 3 came from DigiTimes. The report from DigiTimes follows a report from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who last month said that the iPhone SE 3 will have a new processor and 5G support.
In its report, DigiTimes cited industry sources as saying that Apple has created a new business called chip probing experts. Chip probing is a quality testing process, and DigiTimes says it will be done by Xintec.
Xintec is a subsidiary of TSMC, a chip maker that is a partner of Apple. Xintec has also long partnered with Apple as it is a component supplier for the original iPhone SE and iPhone SE 2020.
Predictions on the launch date of the iPhone SE 3 in the first half of 2022 are in line with a report from Kuo released last month. Kuo said the iPhone SE 3 will be the cheapest iPhone 5G and is expected to boost Apple's position in the increasingly competitive 5G market, as quoted from AppleInsider, Wednesday (21/7/2021).
Apple first launched the iPhone SE in 2016 as a start -up iPhone to replace the iPhone 5S. In 2020, the iPhone SE is revived with a larger screen, a new design, and the iPhone 11’s A13 Bionic chipset.
Based on current rumors, next year’s iPhone SE won’t bring significant changes, only in terms of the newer A14 Bionic chipset and 5G support.
The iPhone SE 2020 is the only phone in the current iPhone line that has Touch ID and a Home button. According to DigiTimes and Kuo, the design will still be used on the iPhone SE 3 next year.
But Apple is already preparing for big changes for the next -generation iPhone SE. The company created by Steve Jobs will reportedly present a punch-hole screen design for the 2023 edition of the iPhone SE.
