One of the most popular news this week from the tech world is the news that the OnlyFans platform will ban pornographic content. Even though this website is a place for users to sell adult video content.

Gathered by us, this is how things sit:

1. What is OnlyFans?

OnlyFans is a subscription content service that has been established since November 2016. OnlyFans is known as a platform for adult content.

OnlyFans' flexibility makes this UK-based site a lot of pornographic photos and videos, as well as being a differentiator from those offered by Facebook and Instagram.

Carrying the concept of a paid but private content service, plus rules that free users, make OnlyFans a target for sex workers to appear on the platform.

2. Timothy Stokely behind OnlyFans

Timothy Stokely is the figure behind OnlyFans. He built OnlyFans five years ago.

Stokely was born in Harlow, Essex, England 38 years ago. Now, the youngest man from a banker serves as CEO of OnlyFans. That achievement, The Sunday Times dubbed him 'The King of Homemade Porn'.

Stokely has an estimated net worth of $120 million. OnlyFans are the most dominant donating their wealth.

During the lockdown in the UK due to the Corona virus, OnlyFans experienced a huge increase, with its annual revenue estimated at US$ 980 million.

Statistically, in 2020 alone, OnlyFans users spent over US$2.4 billion on subscriptions and have more than 120 million users.

3. OnlyFans repent

On Thursday 19 August 2021, OnlyFans made a surprising announcement. As of October 2021, paid sites for adult content prohibit users from making pornographic uploads.

"To ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to host an inclusive community of our creators and fans, we had to develop our content guidelines," OnlyFans said.

OnlyFans still allows nudist or nude content. However, it should not be any more vulgar than nudity.

OnlyFans' move is the result of pressure from payment service companies. Visa and MasterCard, for example, are getting stricter in enforcing rules related to pornography. OnlyFans also acknowledged that the decision was made in response to requests from the payment partners and the bank.

4. The fate of OnlyFans sexy content creators

In line with this newly issued policy, content creators aka models who peddle paid content on OnlyFans are furious. Reporting from NewsWeeks, Friday (9/8), OnlyFans content creators started getting angry on Twitter.

Savvy, who uses the name Venus in OnlyFans, said that during this time OnlyFans built wealth and popularity from the back of sex workers. He also mentioned that this policy was carried out because in the end money, aka getting bank support.

"In just an instant they dumped the creators who made their empire so they could serve the bank," said Savvy.

OnlyFans models are starting to worry about where their income will go. Where people will turn to have sex online.
