OPPO Collaborates with Japanese Architects to Showcase the 'Bamboo Ring' at Milan Design Week

OPPO joined the Milan Design Week event by creating the Bamboo Ring Weaving a Symphony of Lightness and Form installation. This international smartphone brand company collaborated with the famous Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma.

This artwork entitled 'Creative Connection' combines architecture with music, design innovation, technology, and user experience, to give a sensation of time and space. The installation will be on display in Milan's Cortile dei Bagni courtyard during Milan Design Week until 19 September.

Head of OPPO London Design Center Jintong Zhu said, "This woven-like installation structure is made of ring-shaped bamboo and carbon fiber, and can be an instrument that creates a unique sensory experience when combined with music.

According to Jintong, this was created thanks to the structural sound technology developed by OPPO London Design Centre. This innovative technology includes a haptic motor, MEMS speaker strip, and exciter that combine to produce deep, high-frequency sounds that can echo bamboo with Vibrato Vibrato and percussion instrument effects.

"We are very pleased to be partnering again with Kengo Kuma, a renowned architect who is able to combine nature and culture. Together, we show that technology and design can add value to everyday life. This is based on the principle of our philosophy of 'Technology' as an Art Form' and our mission is 'Technology for Mankind, Being Kind to the World'," explained Jintong Zhu in a written statement, Sunday (12/9/2021).

The Bamboo Ring is a woven ring made of bamboo and carbon fiber, and can be an instrument that creates a unique sensory experience when combined with music.

"This work of art is one of the explorations of a new mix of rhythm and tone in architecture that presents a visual and acoustic experience for visitors," explains Kengo.

Bamboo Ring explores the harmonious relationship between humans and nature through the depiction of a light and strong structure made of bamboo and carbon fiber. This artwork is also able to amaze the visitors who see it thanks to the orchestral music arrangement created by famous Japanese violinists named Midori Komachi and Musicity.

This musical composition is inspired by the cycles of the seasons blended with the unique shape of the Bamboo Ring, encouraging visitors to view it from various perspectives and be amazed by the beauty of its aural narrative. The strains of the violin played by Midori are combined with the sounds presented by the O Relax application made by OPPO.

For information, O Relax is one of the features in the OPPO Reno6 Series 5G. This feature is a digital health application from OPPO that can provide peace of mind with a wide selection of natural and urban sounds recorded from various locations around the world, including Reykjavik, Beijing, and Tokyo.

Later, after the Milan Design Week event was held, OPPO will donate a Bamboo Ring to Arte Sella Park, a contemporary art museum in Trentino, Italy. Arte Stella Park has an outdoor exhibition with various works of art made from natural materials and inspired by the surrounding Sella Valley Mountains.
