Jack Ma recently made an appearance in Hong Kong though not overtly. The latest report, the founder of Alibaba and Ant Group is flying to Spain. What's wrong?
Previously reported, Hong Kong media The Standard quoted two reliable sources, stating that Jack Ma was seen in Hong Kong City on October 1, 2021.
In Hong Kong, Jack Ma had several dinners with his business partners. It was later reported that he had played golf with close friends at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling.
Well after that, Jack Ma apparently flew from Hong Kong to Spain in his private plane. His goal there was to tour his $1.6 billion luxury ship called the Zen.
The ship also stopped by the famous tourist area of Ibiza in Portugal. Jack Ma was there with his friends and business partners. Thus, it is certain that the Chinese government did not detain Jack Ma or ban him from overseas, but rather so that he would not appear in public openly.
In October 2020 a year ago, Jack Ma gave a speech criticizing China's financial system. Since then, it can be said that he has mysteriously disappeared without sufficient clarity as to where he is and how he is doing. He only appeared a few times, mostly in cyberspace.
Initially, his harsh criticism of the financial system in China angered the Chinese government, even according to sources, President Xi Jinping himself ordered the IPO of Ant Financial, a Jack Ma company that was going to be listed on the stock exchange, to be stopped. Not only that, Alibaba was then fined heavily for alleged monopolistic actions.
Jack Ma spoke at the Bund Summit, an event in Shanghai attended by hundreds of bankers and representatives of the Chinese government. In essence, he said that the current financial regulation and banking system in China is outdated.
