This year Samsung did not launch a new Galaxy Note phone but is already planning to release a new generation next year. However, the latest news from South Korea indicates the Galaxy Note line will be permanently shut down.
According to a report from ETNews, Samsung is excluding the Galaxy Note series from their product plans for 2022. Additionally, production and sales of the last Galaxy Note line, the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, will be discontinued later this year, as quoted by XDA Developer, Friday (11/26/2021).
Samsung is apparently still producing around 3.2 million units of the Galaxy Note 20 series throughout 2021. But from 2022, this number will decrease to zero, and there will be no new Galaxy Note phones.
The main reason Samsung shut down and stopped production of the Galaxy Note was to increase production of the Galaxy Z folding screen phone. This line of folding screen phones will also replace the Galaxy Note launch and sales schedule.
The ETNews report also mentions that Samsung sold 12.7 million units of the Galaxy Note series in 2019, and 9.7 million units in 2020. On the other hand, Samsung has set a target to sell 13 million units of the Galaxy Z next year, so it makes sense. if their focus is shifted to folding screen phones.
The fate of the Galaxy Note line has indeed been a question mark in the last year. Especially since Samsung gave the Galaxy Note flagship features to other premium phone lines, so there's nothing else that makes the Galaxy Note line look unique and different.
Even so, the Galaxy Note line will live on in other Samsung phones. For example, the S Pen, which is the flagship feature of the Galaxy Note, has now been used on the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Based on the rumors circulating, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which will launch early next year, will reportedly be the spiritual successor to the Galaxy Note series. This phone will have a flat bottom design like the Galaxy Note and a special slot to store the S Pen stylus.
