Worldwide! Aeshnina The Little Girl from Gresik, the Hero of Plastic Waste

Aeshnina is a junior high school student from Gresik, East Java who has become an international environmental activist.

Because of her activities in discussing environmental issues, such as waste issues, Aeshnina was even invited to be one of the speakers at the 2021 Plastic Health Summit in Amsterdam.

The student, who is known as Nina, was present to represent ECOTON, an environmental conservation organization founded by her father as an effort to restore the polluted river environment in Gresik and Surabaya, East Java.

While visiting Amsterdam, Nina visited a plastic recycling facility. In an upload on her personal Instagram account, Nina explained about the waste recycling carried out by the facility.

In the upload, Nina explained that most of the waste that enters the recycling facility is plastic, but other waste such as cans, aluminum, paper, and textiles are also processed there.

Some time ago, Nina also had time to come to England, in conjunction with the implementation of COP26, a climate change conference by the United Nations.

There, Nina had time to protest against sachet packaging with Breakfree From Plastic and Zero Waste Asia in the Blue Zone area.

The owner's full name Aeshnina Azzahra Aqilani has a high value of caring for the environment because it has been instilled by her parents since childhood.

This makes Nina sensitive to environmental problems such as garbage and polluted rivers.

Several years ago, in 2019, Nina even participated in a protest campaign against plastic packaging waste, including imported waste. At that time, Nina sent letters to four embassies of countries whose waste entered Indonesia, namely the United States, Canada, Germany and Australia.

Nina's name has also been widely discussed when sending a handwritten letter of protest to the then President of the United States (US), Donald Trump. The letter was sent through the American Consulate General in Surabaya.

Nina said the letter was written as a form of protest against the United States for illegally exporting plastic waste contaminated with hazardous and toxic waste (B3) to Indonesia.

"This is a letter to Mr. President Trump, not to export their waste to Indonesia anymore. Why should we be affected, they should take care of their own waste," said Nina.

Currently, Nina is actively providing information about microplastics on her Instagram page under the name @info.mistik. On this page, Nina tries to educate the public about the ins and outs of plastic, from its types to its impact on health and the environment.

In addition, Nina is also currently starring in a documentary made by a director named Irja von Berstoff. The film titled "Die Kinder der Klimakrise" tells the journey of four girls from three continents who are struggling with the environmental crisis.
