Xiaomi and Leica are called to be duets for the Xiaomi 12 Ultra camera

Xiaomi is expected to launch its newest line of flagship phones, the Xiaomi 12 series, in the near future. This line is likely to include the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, and the latest leaks suggest that this camera phone will be working with Leica.

According to rumors released by tipster Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi seems to be partnering with Leica to work on the Xiaomi 12 Ultra camera, as quoted from Gizmochina, Monday (15/11/2021).

This Chinese tipster uploaded a photo on Weibo showing the Xiaomi 11 Ultra with the Leica logo on the secondary screen. This indicates that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will likely use a camera from Leica.

Leica has previously collaborated with other Chinese vendors, namely Huawei. Since 2016, Huawei has always released flagship phones that carry cameras and the Leica branding.

The partnership between Huawei and Leica ended this year, along with the launch of the Huawei P50 series. Leica is also claimed to be looking for a new partner, and some of the vendors that are rumored to be Leica's partners are Honor, Xiaomi, or Sharp.

Currently not much information is known about the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. Digital Chat Station previously said that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is expected to have three 50 MP cameras, one of which is a 1/1.5 inch periscope lens with 5x optical zoom support.

This flagship phone is also expected to carry an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner embedded under the screen. In terms of design, it is likely that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will not be much different from the Xiaomi 11 Ultra.

Xiaomi is expected to announce the Xiaomi 12 Ultra in early 2022. Meanwhile, another Xiaomi 12 line is rumored to be released at the end of this year.
