Xiaomi Introduces Loop LiquidCool, Claimed to Make HP Cooler

Xiaomi has just introduced the LiquidCool Loop. This technology promises twice the cooling capability compared to conventional vapor chamber solutions.

LiquidCool's Loop technology is inspired by cooling solutions used in the aerospace industry. Utilizing a capillary effect that draws the liquid refrigerant to the heat source, evaporates, and then efficiently disperses the heat towards a cooler area, until it condenses and is captured through a unidirectional closed loop channel.

"There is an annular heat pipe system consisting of an evaporator, condenser, refill chamber, as well as gas and liquid pipes. Placed in the heat source, the evaporator has a refrigerant that evaporates into gas when the smartphone is under high workload. Gas and airflow it is then diffused into the condenser, where the gas condenses into a liquid again. This liquid is absorbed and collected through tiny fibers in the refill chamber-which recharges the evaporator-making it a self-contained system," explains Xiaomi.

Although this new technology uses the same method as vapor chamber cooling, Loop LiquidCool uses a ring-shaped pump that has a special gas pipe design. The design is claimed to greatly reduce air duct resistance by 30% for smoother steam flow, thus increasing the maximum heat transfer capacity by up to 100%.

To ensure one-way high-efficiency circulation, the LiquidCool Loop uses a Tesla valve structure inside the refill chamber which allows liquid to pass through the evaporator, while preventing gases from moving in the wrong direction. This allows for higher efficiency in gas/liquid circulation throughout the system.

Xiaomi claims to have installed this latest cooling technology on the special Xiaomi MIX 4, where the original vapor chamber was replaced with the LiquidCool Loop solution.

During the test playing Genshin Impact for 30 minutes with a max video setting of 60fps, this new cooling system is claimed to be quite impressive. The LiquidCool loop is able to keep the device under a maximum temperature of 47.7℃ and the processor is 8.6℃ lower than the standard version.

Due to its flexible and stackable shape, LiquidCool's Loop technology can fit into all types of internal designs. It also allows more room for the battery, camera module, and more.

Xiaomi plans to introduce LiquidCool Loop technology on its phones in the second half of 2022.
