Razer Will Collaborate with Qualcomm to Make a Mini Console

Qualcomm is said to be collaborating with Razer to make a mini console or handheld, using the Snapdragon G3X processor.

In the leaked presentation slides from VideoCardz, it appears that there is a device called the Snapdragon G3X Handheld Developer Kit, which seems to be aimed at software developers and console makers to develop software and hardware for the mobile game technology.

The leak also contains a presentation slide regarding Qualcomm's new processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which has now been released. It seems that the leak is accurate because it matches the official presentation, which is 20% faster and 30% more efficient.

Other specs about the handheld console are the USB-C port for XR accessories that support DisplayPort, 6,000 mAh battery, 1080p webcam, and excellent haptic and ergonomics.

The screen used is an OLED type with a refresh rate of 120Hz and supports HDR. Wireless connections include 5G mmWave, WiFi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2. This device will also support cloud gaming like xCloud.

Qualcomm itself is not the first time to make a device like this, which is designed to support development on their platform. For example Windows on Arm PC released in early 2021, which is intended to provide Arm application development tools for Snapdragon-based PCs.

It seems that this handheld gaming platform is intended to be a competitor to Valve's Steam Deck, which is a PC-based handheld console that uses Linux OS and uses AMD processors.

However, Valve is not the only company working on gaming devices in this form factor. Because there are also manufacturers like Lenovo and Alienware who have already shown off their prototypes.

It looks like this device will be officially announced at the Snapdragon Tech Summit which is currently being held in Hawaii.
