In spreading the religion of Islam, the Prophets and Apostles have a very important role. However, there are still many people who have not been able to distinguish between the Prophet and the Apostle. Many think that the Prophet and the Apostle are the same being. In fact, not all prophets are apostles.
Launching from DetikNews and quoting from the book 'Juz 'Amma' by Tim Genta Hidayah, the difference between a Prophet and an Apostle can be seen from their revelation and duties. The Prophet is a messenger of Allah SWT as a carrier of religious teachings brought by the previous Apostle. And Apostles are messengers of Allah SWT who teach religion or new revelations to the people.
Apostles get privileges from Allah in the form of books and special (new) Shari'a, while the Prophet does not get revelation in the form of books, only calls for the previous Apostle's Shari'a.
However, unlike other Prophets who have the title 'Alaihi Salam (AS), there is a special feature of the last Prophet and Messenger, namely the Prophet Muhammad -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- whose main miracle is the Qur'an.
As the Prophet Muhammad said, "I have been given privileges by Allah that have never been given to other prophets."
Based on the hadith narrated by Ahmad, Prophet Muhammad SAW once said regarding the number of Prophets and Apostles, that the Prophets numbered 124,000, while the Apostles numbered three hundred and ten. Some scholars say there are only 313 Apostles.
In the Qur'an, the number of messengers that Muslims are obliged to believe is 25 people, they are:
