One of the most recognizable things about the PlayStation 5 is that it is quite large and bulky. Therefore, a YouTuber feels challenged to create a modified PS5 that is slimmer in size.
The modified PS5 was created by YouTuber Matthew Perks aka DIY Perks. This YouTuber who is known for his gadget modification content managed to make a PS5 with a thickness of only 2 cm.
Perks' modified PS5 is a digital version with a thickness of 9.2 cm. So Perks' ambitious project managed to reduce the thickness of the PS5 by up to 78%, and make it no bigger than a DVD player.
To make the DIY version of the PS5 Slim, Perks disassembled his console and removed all the components to fit into a new, smaller case. The only salvageable component of the original PS5 is the motherboard.
The PS5 has an advanced cooling system that takes up the most space. Instead, Perks made a new cooling system using water cooling, as quoted from Tech Radar, Tuesday (21/6/2022).
The internal power supply is also removed and replaced with an external power supply to save space. But this external power supply is quite large in size and requires a lot of cables to connect to a modified PS5, so it needs to be hidden if you want it to look neat and aesthetic.
In his first attempt, Perks failed because his modified PS5 overheated when used to play Astro's Playroom. He deployed a second PS5 console, and after making a few changes, both trials were successful and could be used to play Horizon Forbidden West smoothly.
