Previously there were some rumors that Apple is testing to restore the Touch ID system on the iPhone that currently uses Face ID. Several prototypes are believed to have been tested. But according to a recent report by Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, Apple doesn't plan to bring back Touch ID anytime soon.
The Touch ID system under the screen and on the power button has been tested but for now the use of only Face ID will continue. This will certainly disappoint those who prefer the Touch ID system. Throughout the pandemic, fingerprint scanning is faster and more practical with this proven on Android devices that support more than one biometric system.
