First Look at TECNO Phantom V Fold – Foldable Device Now in the Mainstream

The years 2021 and 2022 show an increase in terms of offering foldable devices by companies such as Samsung, Huawei and Oppo. In late 2022 and early 2023, these foldable devices will finally show improvements in build quality and performance as well as more production.

This allows these unique devices to eventually be present on the same offerings as existing flagship devices, and as more people get used to devices like these, more brands will introduce their own foldable device offerings, such as which TECNO did with the TECNO Phantom V Fold device that was introduced at the recent Mobile World Congress.

As a foldable device, just like the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Oppo Find N series offerings, the TECNO Phantom V Fold comes with an external and internal screen that can be used when the device is folded open.

The external screen is a 6.42-inch curved screen while the internal screen is 7.85 inches in size, both of which use an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080×2550 FHD+ (external screen) and 2296×2000 2K+ (internal screen), both of which also have a 120Hz refresh rate. .

Although the device comes with a brightness value of around 1100 nits for both displays, we are also told that it does not have support for display technologies such as HDR 10+, which means that even though the device has a high brightness, the color rendering may not be as interesting as what is offered on devices with that technology support.

On the back, the Phantom V Fold device comes with a tri-lens camera, which includes a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto camera and a 13MP ultrawide. In the meantime, the rear external frame of this device also comes with a leather finish, where it comes in a choice of black and white colors.

These different color options also show the use of different skins, where the black color offering is a normal synthetic leather, while the white color option shows the use of a skin made of organic silicone skin.

Unlike materials such as PU leather and PVC, the manufacture and burning of this organic silicone leather is said not to cause the spread of gases that damage the environment.

Turning to the unique features of this device, the TECNO Phantom V Fold comes with a foldable function that you might think, it definitely comes with a very large and clear folding space and effect. But what we saw in the TECNO demo is that the Phantom V Fold device does not show any space in the fold at all, like what was shown on the Oppo Find N2 device.

In fact, for the folding effect as well, I can say that it is not worse than what is seen on the foldable devices offered by Samsung and Oppo. It will be more visible when the device screen is turned off, but when it is active, it is very easy to ignore.

Specifications

TECNO Phantom V Fold can also be seen as a flagship class device based on the use of components in it, It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processing chip which also powers flagship class devices of other brands such as ASUS ROG Phone 6D, Oppo Find N2 Flip and so on .

It is also equipped with 12GB of LPDDR5 memory and has UFS 3.1 storage options of 256GB and 512GB. It is loaded with a 5000mAH battery with a 45W wired charging system that can charge the device from empty to full in 55 minutes.

This device is also driven using the Android 13 operating system with the HiOS 13 Fold interface that comes with a number of interesting features such as moving two or more applications on one large screen, Drive Mode where users can take advantage of the device's large screen to view map applications such as Google Maps or Waze more easily.

Conclusion

I can say that the announcement of the Tecno Phantom V Fold device is proof that foldable devices have finally entered the mainstream and that companies such as Samsung, Oppo and Huawei no longer hold a monopoly on devices with this design.

TECNO Malaysia has confirmed that the TECNO Phantom V Fold will be introduced in the Malaysian market soon. With a number of other brands like Honor and Realme also showing their foldable device offerings in the local market soon, we expect that all these devices will give tough competition to the bigger brands.
