Vaping to be Banned in Melaka

Electronic cigarette or vape smokers in Melaka will be in trouble and will become a nuisance because the state government will ban its sale in the near future, according to a report by Berita Harian. The state Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Exco, Datuk Rahmad Mariman, said it was in accordance with the decision of the Melaka State Fatwa Committee to decide that the use of the cigarette is haram in December 2015.

The measure to ban vape was taken after taking into account all angles including syariah, medical and scientific as well as wasteful elements and unhealthy culture among smokers of the substance. The Melaka government has been considering this ban since last May with a proposal to be tabled in the EXCO meeting for it to be gazetted immediately.

Recently, more and more states have begun to ban the sale and manufacture of vape due to various issues that have arisen such as its use among minors. Vapes containing illegal drugs are also now being sold, causing various addiction problems that are more serious than nicotine.

Initially, vape was seen as an alternative to cigarettes because it can be used to slowly quit completely. It is claimed to be safer and does not cause cancer. However, recent studies have found that it causes popcorn lung issues, heart problems and more serious addiction due to its higher nicotine content compared to cigarettes.
