WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to set reminders for specific messages in a conversation. It is seen as ideal for those who are always busy and easily miss important messages, whether related to work or personal matters. With this function, users can ensure that important messages are no longer drowned in a pile of unread conversations.
The method of use is also easy with users able to long-press on any message in a conversation. Then, they can click on the new option ‘Remind Me‘. WhatsApp offers several time options such as two hours, eight hours or all day and users can set the date and time according to their convenience.
After the reminder is set, a bell icon will appear on the message. When the set time arrives, WhatsApp will send a special notification that displays the full message including pictures and videos (if any) and the original username. This reminder is only stored on the user’s phone and is not shared with anyone in the conversation including WhatsApp.
For now, only some Android beta users can try it and it has the potential to be expanded to more users in the near future.
