Last year, Google was found guilty of conducting a monopoly business by a US court for conducting a business that did not encourage competition. Today, the court ruled that Google does not have to sell Chrome and Android as some analysts predicted after they were found guilty.
Instead, Google is now required to share data about Search searches with their competitors. Google previously said they refused to share this search data because they did not want user privacy to be affected. The data collected by Search gives Google an advantage in the advertising market as it is the largest contributor to their operations.
When rumors emerged that Chrome might need to be sold, several companies such as Perplexity, OpenAI and Yahoo showed interest in buying it. Search search data is now not only a goldmine of revenue but also the key to training artificial intelligence (AI) models that are now the focus of the majority of major technology companies in the world.
