Seoul is the capital of South Korea, which combines centuries-old traditions with modernity. The city has a vibrant metropolitan atmosphere while maintaining its historical heritage through its old palace architecture. In addition, shopping malls and K-Pop culture have also made Seoul a popular destination for tourists.
AI Motion Photo Popout – Create Stories of Various Moments
A work trip to Korea last week was an opportunity to test the Oppo Reno15 Pro’s camera capabilities in real-life situations. With a backdrop of modern urban environments, natural beauty, and preserved cultural traditions, each location was used as a testing ground to evaluate how the camera performs in various situations.
During this visit, the camera was tested during lunch at a Halal restaurant in Korea by recording someone handing over a drink. In different situations, it was used in the city of Dongae to capture the atmosphere of the city and in Bukchon Village with a popout concept on the phone that appeared to float. The footage highlights the subject while showing the surrounding atmosphere including the visitors’ reactions to the traditional village.
Using this feature requires a bit of narration so that the recording results are more organized. The concept is similar to answering the questions of who, where, and what so that each recording can be processed into a clear narrative. With this approach, the picture functions not only as an image but also as a medium to convey information as some examples have been produced.
Using this feature also requires selecting several pictures through the Photos application on the device. The Motion Collage menu is used to set the main subject whether it is a face, an object or a certain atmosphere. The recording results appear to “pop out” of the composition to make the image stand out more.
This function can be used for both regular photos and AI Motion Photos, providing additional options in how the footage is produced. Users can emphasize the main subject or create a more balanced composition. With this approach, travel footage serves as a visual record that can be processed to show different perspectives.
This function does not require complicated manual editing, complex composition or additional applications. All processes can be done directly on the device. This feature is suitable for users who want to share content in different styles without requiring additional effort.
0.6x Ultra-Wide Selfie – Capture Everything in One Frame
Another advantage of the camera on the Oppo Reno15 Pro is the presence of a 0.6x ultra-wide lens. This lens allows the entire atmosphere or large groups to be captured in one frame without having to move much or change positions. It is suitable for selfies with friends, shooting city panoramas or capturing general atmospheres with natural results and providing clear context to the recording.
The quality of the selfie mode on the Reno15 Pro is almost similar to the rear camera with sharp results. The effect of distortion is also reduced in most situations, just as mentioned in the previous Reno15 review. The ultra-wide selfie mode does not show significant distortion, the subject's face does not look too concave and the quality at every corner of the image remains sharp.
However, the skin tone issue still exists as before where the color temperature is less controlled. This is one of the significant shortcomings for the selfie mode. However, the presence of the ultra-wide lens still provides added value because it makes it easier to record large groups or wide atmospheres without having to rely on manual editing or additional applications.
3.5x Telephoto Vibe Portrait – Capture Emotions Closer
In addition to the ultra-wide lens, the Oppo Reno15 Pro is also equipped with the 3.5x Telephoto Vibe Portrait function. This lens uses a focal length of 85mm which is considered the golden focal length. This focal length produces a natural spatial compression effect that makes the background appear closer to the main subject.
The camera's special features are not limited to one angle of view. The phone provides several focal options such as 0.6x ultra-wide for a wider angle, 1x standard with two focal lengths of 24mm and 28mm as well as 2x, 3.5x and 7x telephoto for varying recording distances. The Telescope Zoom algorithm also supports digital zoom up to 120x. With this support, users can record distant subjects more clearly without affecting the overall composition.
The advantages of this telephoto lens are not only limited to selfies. It can also be used to record the expressions and emotions of others. For example, when in Korea, this lens allows the faces of local people to be recorded closer. Smiles, reflections, or spontaneous gestures can be captured clearly, thus adding value to the image results.
With Telephoto Vibe Portrait, Reno15 Pro can be used to record faces, objects, expressions, and moments that you want to share. Photography using this telephoto lens allows for recordings that look natural without the need for excessive emphasis.
Dual-View Video Mode – Simultaneous Recording of Front and Rear Cameras
The Dual-View Video Mode function allows users to record videos using the front and rear cameras simultaneously.
With this capability, two different situations can be recorded at the same time. This mode also provides several display position options, including a top-down view (split view) suitable for travel vlogs, a side-by-side view (side by side) useful for interviews or reactions, and a picture-in-picture (PiP) view where one recording is used as the main display while the other recording appears in a small window as additional context.
With this position variation, users can choose the display style that suits the recording they want to make. Whether for vlogs, short interviews, or other atmospheric recordings, this mode provides additional flexibility. For example, when visiting Alpaca World, Dual-View Video Mode was used to record the experience of seeing alpacas up close while showing their own reactions in one recording.
In another situation at Bukchon Hanok Village, this mode allows recording the reactions of those around them to the beauty of the traditional village, while the user is also in the same frame. Although it is not a new feature, this function still provides additional advantages and can be used to create content with different perspectives.
4K60FPS HDR Video Recording (Built-in Stabilization)
Oppo Reno15 Pro supports video recording up to 4K 60FPS with HDR and built-in stabilization. This function can be used on the front and rear cameras with the same settings. In tests around Hongdae, stabilization looked good even in motion, while the colors produced were balanced with sufficient contrast.
The quality of the recording at 4K resolution looked sharp and could be directly uploaded to social media without the need for additional editing. Recording can be done with five focal lengths, namely 0.6x, 1x, 2x, 3.5x and 7x with zoom up to 18x. There are also two color profiles, namely Stage and DreamWorks, just like the main camera, although they are not suitable for silhouette recording.
Personal View
From my experience, I found that the Reno15 Pro camera results are better than the regular model I have used before. The main camera at 1x focal length produces sharp images with balanced contrast and is able to capture details clearly. In certain conditions, saturation appears to be slightly reduced, especially when the subject has a flat color such as gray or white. However, the effect is not too noticeable and the image is still pleasant to look at.
White balance works very well because it is able to stabilize the color temperature in almost all conditions. When the focal length starts to increase, there is a slight loss of sharpness but the effect is not very noticeable. Autofocus sometimes requires a little extra effort, but overall the performance is still satisfactory. The dynamic range also shows good results because it is able to maintain a balance between bright light and shadow, making the recording more consistent and detailed.
In portrait mode, the bokeh effect produced looks neat and smooth. The separation of the subject from the background is done accurately, resulting in sharp and clear images. Skin tones look natural without affecting the original tone, although the results depend a little on the weather conditions. During the Korean winter, natural lighting has a certain effect on skin tones, but the camera is still able to maintain a good color balance.
Night mode also depends on the lighting conditions. With sufficient lighting, the resulting images look sharp, have enough color and have a balanced brightness. The ‘blooming’ effect is not too excessive, which makes the recording results more consistent and pleasant to look at.
