Siri currently uses ChatGPT as its artificial intelligence (AI) model when run by users, with reports suggesting it will be provided for free by OpenAI. With iOS 27, Apple is believed to allow Siri to use other models, which are set by device owners, according to a Bloomberg report.
Device owners only need to download the AI services they use before integrating them directly into Siri. Apple will allow third-party AI services to be used by taking a portion of the monthly subscription fee that can generate revenue.
Apple's AI strategy is different from other companies that develop their own models. Their own AI efforts through Apple Intelligence were not satisfactory, so they are now using a model based on Google Gemini. Although seen as a mistake in the early stages, it is now seen as a success because Apple did not waste billions of dollars developing its own models.
The third-party AI integration feature into Siri is expected to be shown at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) this June.
