Grab has now announced that it has agreed to buy FoodPanda's operations in Taiwan for $600 million, which is around RM2.36 billion. With this acquisition, it also shows Grab's entry into Taiwan, after focusing on operations in Southeast Asia.
With the acquisition of FoodPanda's operations in Taiwan, it immediately provides access to 21 cities around Taiwan in offering food delivery services.
Previously, Delivery Hero, the owner of FoodPanda's operations in Taiwan, had agreed to sell it to Uber for $950 million, however, the move was rejected by the authorities in Taiwan.
It is not yet known whether Grab's acquisition in Taiwan will face the same problems as Uber or not. Grab stated that this acquisition is expected to be completed by the second half of 2026.
