We agree with many that today’s generation no longer likes to read. Social media fatigue is making magazines and books obsolete. So what’s the solution to this issue? For Spotify and magazine publishers, the answer is offering long articles in audio format through the new Articles feature.
Today, there are over 650 English-language articles from popular magazines such as Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, Vogue, Variety, Billboard, Vibe, GQ, WIRED, Vanity Fair, and Pitchfork. The audio content of these articles is self-published by the Spotify Audiobooks team.
Spotify Premium users can access the articles as part of their monthly audiobook quota. Free Spotify users can purchase the articles individually for $1.99 each.
Spotify sees Articles as a way to introduce long-form content in audio format, in line with the habits of users who already listen to music, podcasts, and audiobooks. The format aims to build healthy listening habits, starting with shorter content before moving on to longer audiobooks. Audio articles help users explore topics, artists, and stories they are interested in more deeply.
