A year ago, Apple reportedly said it would spend $600 billion to help boost its manufacturing industry in the US over the next four years. This includes production of various internal components for its products, which it said would be manufactured entirely in the country.
Recently, Apple signed a $30 billion investment deal with semiconductor component manufacturer Broadcom to produce 15 billion chips for Apple devices in the US over the next five years. Broadcom is one of Apple's long-standing component manufacturing partners, and the deal is expected to move production of these components to the US.
Broadcom is known for producing radio chips that are specifically used to receive and transmit signals for telecommunications networks such as 4G, 5G, Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi.
This deal is also seen as part of Apple's promise to invest $600 billion, with Apple also recently confirming that it will buy other semiconductor components manufactured in the United States by Intel and TSMC.
