SpaceX Considers Purchasing Operational and Customer Data from Defunct Companies to Train AI

SpaceX is reportedly holding internal discussions about purchasing data—specifically operational and customer data—from companies that have gone bankrupt or shut down. This data would serve as a resource for training their artificial intelligence models.

This move follows Google's recent offer to purchase data from a bankrupt airline for $10 million. Banks and financial institutions are also looking to sell data from insolvent companies to generate returns and settle outstanding debts.

Such data offers an advantage to AI-focused companies by providing a more diverse data source rooted in real-world operations.

SpaceX owns the Grok AI model, which currently requires further training and a larger user base to compete with services from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Elon Musk has previously stated in meetings that Grok would be trained using all information related to SpaceX. Grok is also already being trained on data from X (formerly Twitter), granting it access to a wide range of real-time information.
