Google Launches Playground: An AI-Powered Video Game Development Platform

After a long period of showcasing AI experiments that generate short video games, Google has today launched the Playground platform. Users can turn their video game ideas into reality using Playground simply by entering a text prompt.

Video games can be created without any prior coding or development knowledge. Once generated, the games can be saved, shared with friends, or published to the Playground community for others to try—all accessible directly through a web browser.

Users simply need to write a prompt describing the type of game they wish to create, select 2D or 3D graphics, and choose whether the game is for a single player or multiple players. Playground lists the rendering images and assets to be used before generating the final version of the game.

This is just the first step; Playground will eventually support integration with Unity Spark, enabling high-quality 3D graphics, advanced game mechanics, and the use of the professional-grade Unity engine. Currently, access to Unity Spark is limited to a closed beta for testing purposes.

Playground is currently accessible to users aged 18 and older in the United States only, with game generation limits determined by the user's personal Google AI plan subscription.
