Meta has begun banning advertisements for products owned by ByteDance, specifically TikTok. This measure has been implemented in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The specific reason for this move is unknown. It is highly likely that Meta does not want TikTok using its platforms to advertise and attract users to a competitor's service. Previously, TikTok was widely marketed on Meta's platforms, leading to a surge in its user base.
As of now, Meta has not issued a statement explaining why TikTok advertisements have been banned. Notably, Meta is currently focusing on its cross-platform Reels feature; for instance, it is experimenting in India with a Facebook interface that prioritizes video content, offering an experience similar to TikTok.
