OpenAI has introduced "Dots" to compete with Meta's Muse offering. Dots provides an always-on AI agent capable of performing various tasks on the user's behalf. The system is powered by GPT-6 Astra.
Currently, users can set up their own Dot, name it, and assign it relevant tasks. OpenAI has stated that future updates will allow users to manage multiple Dots that coordinate with one another to execute tasks and workflows.
Dots can also be controlled by sending messages via services such as Slack and Microsoft Teams. By assigning them distinct characters and personas, OpenAI aims for broader adoption rather than limiting usage to technical users—a common characteristic of other AI agent services. Demonstrations show that Dots can operate continuously, providing feedback, updating websites or applications based on user input, updating documents, managing daily appointments, and more. All of this occurs in the background, eliminating the need for users to actively engage with their devices. This enables the easy automation of various tasks.
Dots is currently available only to Pro and Business Premium subscribers.
