While not yet downloadable and installed, Microsoft has provided a way to check your PC’s compatibility with Windows 11.
You do this using the PC Health Check app, which can be downloaded from here. Well, in this application you can check the compatibility of your PC with Windows 11, especially for members of the Windows Insider Program, who can try Windows 11 first.
However, it’s possible the PC Health Check app says that your PC isn’t compatible with Windows 11. This is definitely confusing (and annoying), especially since the minimum specifications required for Windows 11 are quite low.
That is, only a processor of at least 1GHz with at least two cores, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage, DirectX 12, a screen of at least 9 inches 720p. This requirement is fairly easy to meet, even for beginner PCs (and laptops).
But the condition is not only that, because Microsoft also requires the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0. This TPM module should be present on all PCs, but may not be enabled in the BIOS.
If this module is not activated, then the PC Health Check will say that your PC is not compatible with Windows 11. How do I check?
One way to check is to press Windows + R on your keyboard, then type ‘tpm.msc’ and press OK or enter. From there a menu will open showing whether your PC has TPM or not.
If the 'Compatible TPM not found' notification appears, it's possible that your TPM chip has not been turned on. How to turn on this TPM is different on each PC.
But in general, the way to turn it on is to go into the BIOS (restart the PC and press the F4, F8, or DEL keys - depending on the motherboard model), and find the TPM option in the BIOS and turn it on.
Once turned on, you can check the PC Health Check app again, which will state that your PC is compatible with Windows 11.
What is TPM?
Actually, what is TPM? A TPM is a platform - software and hardware - used to store and protect passwords and encryption keys. Then, if the TPM chip detects something malicious in the system, it can quarantine and try to solve the problem.
In general, the TPM is a PC's defense against attack, and it may be an obligation to have a TPM that makes Microsoft believe in the security of Windows 11.
