The Malaysian government is raiding cryptocurrency mining such as Bitcoin in Sarawak. The evidence was then destroyed by being struck with a stoom -type heavy vehicle.
A total of 1,069 crypto mining tools such as Bitcoin and Ethereum were destroyed. The PC machine was seized in six raids conducted between February and April in 2021.
The miner was found guilty of illegally stealing electricity from power company Sarawak Energy Berhad. Bitcoin mining operators are accused of stealing electricity worth around USD 2 million.
Local authorities also detained six suspects aged between 24 and 64 years. Police say that illegal cryptocurrency mining in Sarawak province has recently become more prevalent, so they have taken stern action. The destruction of mining equipment is done by court order.
Those who want to mine Bitcoin, Ethereum and others use modified PCs and usually spend a lot of energy. It is this waste of energy that has led to criticism of Bitcoin mining as being considered harmful to the environment.
Earlier in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Security Service (SSU) raided a crypto mine in the city of Vinnytsia and seized hundreds of GPUs, dozens of processors, and 3,800 PS4 units.
The PS4 variant used in this mine is the PS4 Slim, which launched in 2016, which is no faster than the original PS4 and definitely slower than the PS4 Pro.
This PS4 seems to have been chosen because Ethereum mining also depends on memory bandwidth, not just on computing capabilities. This is where the PS4 and PS4 Slim come in handy, as these consoles have bandwidth of up to 176GB / s from the GDDR5 memory chip used.
