MediaTek announced two new system-on-chip (SoC), namely the Helio G96 and Helio G88. The presence of both allows manufacturers to present smartphones with superior photographic features to consumers.
“With the launch of the Helio G96 and Helio G88, MediaTek is bringing new SoCs to enhance the display and photography experience to key markets,” said CH Chen, Deputy General Manager of Wireless Communications Products at MediaTek’s Wireless Business Group. 2021).
The Helio G96 SoC provides support for a Full HD + resolution display with a 120Hz refresh rate, promising smoother web page scrolling and animation in a variety of applications. The Helio G96 120Hz display support has no limitations in the supply of DDIC, C-phy or D-phy interfaces, and supports both LCD or AMOLED displays.
This is combined with support for up to 108MP cameras for detailed photos, an integrated fast Cat-13 4G LTE WorldMode modem, 4G dual SIM and VoLTE and ViLTE services, as well as an Intelligent Resource Management Engine and Network Engine.
While the Helio G88 SoC supports a 90Hz refresh rate. It has an octa-core CPU consisting of two Arm Cortex-A75 CPUs that operate up to 2.0GHz, enabling responsive reactions, application loading and fast image capture.
The Helio G88 brings main camera support up to 64MP, as well as a hardware depth machine for dual camera bokeh capture, Camera Control Unit (CCU) technology and Electronic Image Enhancement (EIS) and Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC).
Both the MediaTek Helio G96 and Helio G88 chipsets will deliver better overall performance on mid- to upper-class handsets. Unfortunately, it has not been announced when the handset powered by the two chipsets will be launched to the market.
