Fear of leaving home because of COVID-19, can be a sign of Cave Syndrome

Mental health is also hitting amid the COVID-19 pandemic situation. One of the growing problems is the fear of people leaving home because they protect themselves from exposure to COVID-19. Mental health experts say this is a symptom of cave syndrome.
The vaccination program is indeed run intensively so that more people are vaccinated. However, some people who have been vaccinated are completely afraid of meeting the public.

A study by the American Psychological Association found that 49% of Americans who had been fully vaccinated felt as uncomfortable interacting directly with others as they did before the outbreak.

And as more and more places reopen, these people feel reluctant to leave their homes. Do you think so? Maybe you have cave syndrome.

As the name suggests, cave syndrome, aka cave syndrome, seems like some people have lived in caves too long and are hesitant to return to their pre-epidemic lives.

What is Cave Syndrome?

Although this is not an official psychological diagnosis, cave syndrome is generally characterized by feelings of anxiety to return to socializing directly after a COVID-19 outbreak, even after they have been fully vaccinated.

Quoted from The New York Times, the cause is different for everyone. Largely because they were hesitant to return to normal life due to persistent fears about the risk of contracting COVID-19 or further infection when the outbreak subsided. There are also those who are accustomed and like to be alone during isolation and lock -up during outbreaks.

Whatever the cause, the syndrome makes sense. Having a pandemic period of more than a year is enough to make some people traumatized. In May 2020, researchers at the University of British Columbia published a study that predicted that about 10% of people in a pandemic state develop COVID stress syndrome after overcoming severe psychological problems, such as post-traumatic stress disorder.

Cave syndrome is a phenomenon that is predicted to be encountered by many people during an outbreak and after the outbreak. Many people have underestimated their feelings of fear because it is natural to feel fear in a situation like the COVID-19 pandemic. However, if the fear turns into persistent restlessness, experts recommend therapy.
