Google Health data compiled in the Community Mobility Report reveals that the implementation of the pandemic has resulted in a decrease in the number of people leaving the house.
This report maps movement trends over time by geography and across different categories of places such as retail and leisure, grocery stores and pharmacies, parks, public transport hubs, workplaces, and residential areas.
During the pandemic Google updated the mobility data of the world's people, which can be accessed on the Community Mobility Report page. This report aims to provide an analysis of what changes have occurred as a result of implementing policies to fight COVID-19.
Based on the report "Community Mobility During the COVID-19 Pandemic" for the period from July 10 to August 21, 2021, people were observed to reduce visits to public places and stay at home more often.
The results of this mobility data were obtained after being compared with the baseline mobility data of the world community before the pandemic, namely the period January 6 - February 3, 2020. The data revealed the following information:
A 15% decrease occurred for visits to retail and recreational venues (Mobility trends for places such as restaurants, cafes, shopping centers, amusement parks, museums, libraries, and cinemas)
12% increase in visits to grocery stores and pharmacies (Mobility trends for places such as supermarkets, grocery stores, traditional markets, specialty food stores, drug stores, and pharmacies)
25% reduction in visits to parks (Mobility trends for places like national parks, public beaches, piers, pet parks, open fields, and public parks)
36% reduction in visits to public transport hubs (Mobility trends for places such as public transport hubs, e.g. KRL stations, bus terminals, and train stations)
11% reduction in visits to work (Mobility trends for the workplace)
An increase of 8% for residential areas (Mobility trends for residential areas).
The results of this community mobility data are obtained from the anonymous data of users who turn on the Location History feature on their smartphones. Google claims that it does not collect user's personal data, because the data collection mechanism is similar to that applied in various applications made by them, including Google Maps.
