So far the production of the iPhone and various other Apple devices has not been affected by the lack of chips. However, there are incidents at TSMC that may prevent the production of the iPhone 13 system on the chip.
The incident was a contaminated gas supply at TSMC’s Fab 18 plant, which produces the iPhone 13 SoC, the next -generation Mac, and possibly the 2022 iPad Pro.
In a statement to Nikkei Asia, TSMC acknowledged that several of its production lines at the South Taiwan Science Park received a supply of contaminated gas from their suppliers, and immediately replaced those gas suppliers.
TSMC then took the necessary steps so that the problem did not affect the production quality of the A15 Bionic chip, which reportedly began production in late May.
They also assumed the incident would not have a major impact on chip production operations.
The same report also states that Apple will mass-produce the iPhone 13 by the end of August, and its public launch is likely to take place in September.
Apple has previously warned investors that they will experience chip supply problems in the coming quarters. Then in April they stated that the lack of this chip would affect the iPad and Mac.
In Apple’s latest financial report, they experienced a 50%increase in iPhone sales, with a value reaching USD 39.57%. But it actually made Apple CEO Tim Cook dizzy.
That’s because of the problem of lack of chip supply, which will affect iPhone sales. The high demand for the iPhone may not all be able to be met due to problems that have been going on for so long.
“Demand (for the iPhone) is very good and far exceeds our expectations so it’s harder to get all the components on time,” Cook said.
