OPPO: VOOC Flash Charge Now Meets Various Needs

OPPO introduced the latest breakthrough from Flash Charge technology development research. This latest Flash Charge was introduced in the 'What Next for Flash Charging?' OPPO Lightning Charge Open Day.
OPPO VOOC Flash Charge Chief Scientist Jeff Zhang said the development of VOOC Flash Charge technology is based on innovations in fast charging systems that include charging adapters, charging cables, PMICs, batteries, and more.

"Whether people choose wireless or wired charging, VOOC Flash Charge technology can now meet a wide range of needs when charging electronic devices, even in the most extreme conditions," Jeff Zhang said in a written statement Wednesday (4/8/2021).

In the introduction of this new Flash Charge technology, OPPO has introduced a five -level security protection system to enhance security in VOOC Flash Charge technology. OPPO has also explored new materials, AI algorithms, charging architecture and other factors to take charging innovation further.

In this new technology, OPPO installs a fuse with a lower impedance so that it can immediately explode if there is overcurrent or other abnormalities. This safety system also protects the battery by physically isolating it from the mains supply.

OPPO has also improved the fuse design that has lower internal durability and improved performance to help improve the safety of the filling system.

OPPO didn’t forget to use the Gallium Nitride (GaN) switch used on mobile phones for the first time. This switch is not only able to achieve the same function as traditional silicon MOSFET switches in a smaller area, thus reducing the space required, but low impedance and high voltage operation help reduce overheating, improve charging efficiency and reliability.

The battery design is also made with a dual-cell series that allows the same force to be transmitted while lowering amperes and reducing overheating.

This design goes a step further as it combines multiple batteries in the same structure, thus taking up less space while still providing the same safety performance. The new design allows for an increase in battery capacity of at least 5% for the same battery size.

The new Flash Charge technology is also equipped with a battery safety detection chip system with AI algorithm, so it can detect if the battery is experiencing an external failure by recognizing the voltage drop in real time based on various scenarios.

If the voltage drop is due to damage to the battery, the device will alert the user and take additional safety measures to prevent further danger.

OPPO has also developed a battery protector with a new composite structure featuring a composite current collector. The battery uses a new composite material installed between two layers of aluminum to replace the design commonly found on smartphone devices.

This ‘sandwich’ structure is coated with an additional protective material to form a five -layer composite current collector structure to increase battery safety by protecting it from short circuits caused by external damage.

Tests at OPPO Lab show without sacrificing performance, the new battery passes puncture and impact tests with a 100%success rate.

OPPO also launched a new smart charging technology designed to keep charging speeds within the safest range. This technology adjusts the charging current based on intelligent detection of various charging scenarios.

This technology can also help reduce the occurrence of battery aging, which allows users to enjoy optimal battery life for a longer period of time. Smart charging technology is capable of providing significant improvements to various aspects of battery performance.

With this technology, the battery life will be longer while ensuring the charging speed of SuperVOOC 65W. The technology is also capable of maintaining battery capacity up to 80% of its original capacity after as many as 1,500 charging cycles.

OPPO’s new Flash Charge also gets an increase in charging speed in certain scenarios. The charging speed can be increased according to certain situations based on the maximum power that can be drawn by the battery at a given time.

In this case, the SuperVOOC 65W, can increase the speed by around 20%, allowing the 4500mAh battery to be fully charged in 30 minutes when needed.

The technology is also capable of finding the best balance between charging current and temperature rise in different use scenarios. As a result, users can operate their devices while doing fast charging without having to worry.

OPPO has also been looking for ways to optimize its fast charging technology in more extreme situations. For example, charging a lithium-ion battery in a very cold environment will force the battery to charge and result in a short circuit.

OPPO’s ultra -low temperature charging solution uses an intelligent algorithm to determine the optimal battery charging temperature and raise the temperature before charging begins. Test results show that the battery is able to increase the temperature from -20 ℃ to 10 in just tens of seconds, so that the battery can be recharged as usual.

Since the introduction of VOOC Flash Charge in 2014, safety, efficiency and ease of use have been at the core of OPPO's R&D contribution to battery technology and fast charging.

As of June 30, 2021, OPPO has filed more than 3,000 patents related to fast charging technology. Through more than 30 devices that support VOOC Flash Charge technology, OPPO has brought this fast, easy and secure charging experience to more than 195 million users worldwide.

In 2021, OPPO launched a new project, the Flash Initiative, bringing VOOC’s fast charging technology to automotive, public spaces, and chips included in devices.

In the Internet of Experience era, Flash Charge technology is evolving to provide a next -generation charging experience designed to be superior in any situation, allowing people to charge any device, anytime, and anywhere.
