Variants of the Corona virus appear and cause problems, call it Delta or Lambda. So far, the Corona vaccines from various pharmaceutical companies are still quite effective in preventing it, at least avoiding severe symptoms. But Pfizer's CEO believes one day a more dangerous variant will emerge.
Albert Bourla, the CEO of Pfizer, stated that his company believes a virus-resistant variant of the Corona virus is likely to emerge one day. However, if that happens, his party claims to be ready to anticipate with a new vaccine development.
"Every time a new variant appears in the world, our scientists start researching it," said .
"They're doing research to see if this variant can escape our vaccine protection. We haven't identified it yet but believe that maybe one day one of them will emerge," Albert added.
According to him, Pfizer requires a process of about 95 days to develop a vaccine that is specific to a particular Corona virus variant, after identification. For example, if a vaccine-resistant variant is discovered today, the vaccine will be developed in about 3 months.
Previously, experts in the UK also revealed that there is a possibility that a variant of COVID-19 in the future, can overpower a person's immunity even after being given twice the vaccine dose.
A member of The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage), Prof. Graham Medley said that basically, a new variant of the Corona virus that is able to overcome immunity significantly is a new virus.
"The advantage is that we can produce a vaccine against this virus relatively quickly. The disadvantage is that we may return to the same situation as last year," Medley said.
