Windows 11 Can Be Installed on Older Devices, But...

When Microsoft announced Windows 11, many users were confused because their devices were not compatible with the latest operating system. Now Microsoft is expanding the provisions regarding systems that are supported by Windows 11 while announcing that devices with older processors will still be able to install this operating system.

In a recent blog, Microsoft added several new processors to its list of Windows 11 compatible systems. The list now includes the Intel Core X-series, Xeon W-Series and select devices running Intel Core 7820HQ such as the Surface Studio 2.

Unfortunately, the first generation AMD Ryzen processor is not included in this list even though it has been tested by Microsoft.

"After careful analysis of the first generation AMD Zen processors in partnership with AMS, we have concluded that these processors will not be included in the list of supported CPUs," the Microsoft Windows team said in a blog post. /8/2021).

Microsoft claims devices that don't meet hardware requirements experience kernel crashes 52% more often. Meanwhile, devices that meet the minimum specification requirements have a crash-free experience of 99.8%.

In the same blog, Microsoft indicated that devices that are not supported by Windows 11 can still install this operating system by taking advantage of existing loopholes. But Microsoft will not recommend this kind of installation method and warns that the system the user is using is not officially supported by Microsoft.

Users who want to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 but the device does not meet the requirements can update their device by downloading the Windows 11 ISO file and installing it manually. Or it could be through the Windows Insider program and the Media Creation Tool.

But users who want to install Windows 11 also still have to meet the minimum requirements, namely having a 1GHz 64-bit processor with two or more cores, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage and TPM 1.2. Processor of any generation does not matter as long as the minimum specifications above are met.

Microsoft will also update the PC Health Check app to include a new list of supported CPUs and provide clearer information on why users' devices don't officially support Windows 11. Currently the application is still being tested and will be rolled out in the next few weeks.
