Xiaomi Becomes World Mobile Market Ruler For The First Time

Xiaomi has created a new breakthrough. For the first time, the company created by Lei Jun has become number one in the world mobile phone market throughout June 2021.
Xiaomi managed to overtake not only Apple, but Samsung, which has become the king of the mobile phone world. This is Counterpoint Research’s Monthly Market Pulse Services report, as seen on Friday (6/8/2021).

Xiaomi managed to capture 17.1% share of the world mobile market. Counterpoint recorded vendor growth making the Redmi brand 26% from the previous month. This makes it the fastest growing brand for June.

"Since the Huawei downturn began, Xiaomi has made consistent and aggressive efforts to fill the gap caused by this downturn. OEMs have grown rapidly in Huawei's legacy and Honor markets such as China, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In June, Xiaomi more great again helped by the recovery of China, Europe and India and the decline of Samsung due to supply constraints, "said Tarun Pathak, Director of Research at Counterpoint.

The supply constraints mentioned earlier by Pathak made Samsung’s market share drop from before. Now technology companies from South Korea accounted for 15.7% during last June. Despite its strongest rival, Apple, it has a 14.3%market share.

On Samsung’s supply constraints, Counter Point Senior Analyst Varun Mishra said that Samsung’s production was disrupted in June, which resulted in the brand’s devices experiencing shortages across channels.

“Xiaomi, with its strong mid-range portfolio and broad market coverage, is the biggest recipient of the short-term gap left by Samsung’s A series,” Mishra said.

Going forward, if the situation in Vietnam does not improve, Samsung's production will likely still be hit by Xiaomi as its market share is depleted. But if supply recovers, Samsung's assessment is likely to change again.

Mishra also commented on the Chinese mobile market. It saw the Chinese market grow 16% in June driven by the 618 festival, with Xiaomi being the fastest growing OEM. This is inseparable from aggressive offline expansion in low-level cities.

"In addition, the performance of the Redmi 9, Redmi Note 9 and Redmi K series is solid. At the same time, due to the new wave of COVID-19 epidemic in Vietnam," he concluded.
