Free After Long Confinement, Huawei Boss: Thank You Xi Jinping!

Meng Wanzhou has arrived in China, he landed at Bao'an International Airport in Shenzhen city. His arrival was applauded by many residents crammed into the airport. Meng, who is the daughter of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, also expressed her gratitude.

"Finally, I'm at home," he said to the crowd who greeted him at the airport.

In particular, he thanked the Chinese president, Xi Jinping. "President Xi is concerned about the safety of every Chinese citizen. I am deeply moved," said Meng.

Huawei's Chief Financial Officer also thanked all those who supported him. "They steadfastly protect the rights and interests of Chinese companies and citizens," he concluded.

Meng's release was the result of back-and-forth negotiations between America - Canada - China. From the results of these negotiations, China also released 2 Canadian citizens from detention on charges of espionage, namely businessman Michael Spavor and former diplomat Michael Korvig.

Hours after Meng Wanzhou flew back to China, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that 2 Canadians had been released and were on their way home with Canada's Ambassador to China Dominic Burton.

Meng has been under house arrest for almost 3 years in Vancouver, Canada. Meng's detention by Canadian authorities on behalf of the US government relates to allegations of fraud against HSBC Bank and wire fraud, in which she is accused of concealing business ties with Iran by Skycom, a Huawei subsidiary.

China has repeatedly protested against the detentions. China's ambassador to Canada, Cong Peiwu, once said it would continue to ask Canada to correct its mistakes and release Meng as soon as possible.

"Our great homeland and nearly 1.4 billion Chinese people are your most loyal supporters. We wish you a safe return to China as soon as possible," Cong messaged Meng Wanzhou.
