BYD Malaysia has confirmed that the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly plant project in Tanjong Malim, Perak, will not proceed. This decision stems not from obstacles, but from a strategic move by the company to re-evaluate locations and investments. This shift signals a new direction focused on strengthening its position within the local electric vehicle market.
Negotiations with local suppliers are currently at an advanced stage, reflecting BYD's efforts to forge synergies with the nation's automotive ecosystem. Regarding the market, current vehicle inventory is reported to be sufficient, although some models face supply constraints. To maintain stable sales momentum, the company is working closely with dealers to balance supply and demand.
Furthermore, BYD has no immediate plans to import vehicles from Indonesia, except for specific models that are in high demand but not currently offered in Malaysia. Production capacity is being planned with a long-term horizon of 10 to 20 years, aligning with efforts to develop the EV market in Malaysia. At present, the company has not yet established a clear timeline for commencing CKD production in Malaysia.
