According to a report by Windows Central, Microsoft will end support for the Copilot application on LG TVs running WebOS by the end of this year. Notifications regarding this change began appearing on affected LG TVs yesterday, though no specific reason was provided. For now, this discontinuation appears limited to WebOS-based TVs; as of the time of writing, no such notifications have appeared on Samsung TVs running the Tizen OS.
Over the past five months, Microsoft has been restructuring its strategy for integrating Copilot into its own applications, such as Notepad, the Snipping Tool, and Photos. Many users have expressed frustration, noting that Copilot is being integrated into applications where it is not actually needed. This not only makes the software more resource-intensive but also consumes memory—a critical issue for PCs already facing RAM constraints amid the current artificial intelligence (AI) boom.
While Copilot is being removed from WebOS-based TVs, this does not signal that Microsoft is abandoning the technology. In fact, just this week, Microsoft offered voluntary separation packages to over 60,000 employees—a move intended to further accelerate the adoption of AI within the organization.
