Windows 11 Can't Run Android Apps At Launch

One of the anticipated new features of Windows 11 is the ability to access Android apps on the desktop. Unfortunately Windows 11 will not immediately support this feature when it is released to the public.

Microsoft says it will launch a preview of this feature in the next few months. Though Windows 11 is scheduled to be released to all users on October 5th.

"We look forward to continuing our journey of bringing Android apps to Windows 11 and the Microsoft Store through our collaboration with Amazon and Intel; this will start with previews for Windows Insider in the next few months," said Aaron Woodman, general manager of Windows Marketing, Microsoft. quoted from The Verge, Thursday (2/9/2021).

Although the specifics have not been revealed, it is likely that this feature will only be present in 2022 because Microsoft will only be testing it with Windows Insiders members first before rolling it out to more users a few months later.

Microsoft first announced Android app support for Windows 11 back in June. This Android application is offered in partnership with Amazon and can be downloaded by users via the Microsoft Store.

Not only that, Microsoft will also allow users to sideload or install applications from third-party sources for Android applications and Google services that are not available in the Microsoft Store.

While the Android app doesn't launch right away, Microsoft says other new Windows 11 features will be available at launch such as a new Start menu, Snap Layouts, Desktops, integrated Microsoft Teams, and the new Microsoft Store.

Windows 11 itself will be launched on October 5 and can be downloaded by all Windows 11 users for free. Microsoft says they will offer Windows 10 upgrades to Windows 11 for free until mid-2022.
