Google is rolling out a new security feature that allows users under the age of 18 to ask Google to remove image search results and photos of themselves. This feature was originally introduced last August and is now widely available.
Anyone can start the process on the Google Support page. Those who file a report must provide the URL of the image they want to remove.
Fill in the search that shows the image. The name and age of the minor, as well as the name and relationship of the reporting individual (parent or guardian) are also included in the reported data.
The Google Support page writes that after users submit a deletion report, they will get an automatic confirmation email containing that Google has accepted the request. Google also made sure to review the request.
In addition, Google will also collect additional info if needed. Finally, there are two scenarios resulting from the review, namely the request is accepted and the image is deleted. Second, if it is not included in the conditions then Google will provide an explanation.
Users can also add other materials to support case reports, and then re-report.
The Verge added that it is difficult to say what the criteria for implementing this Google policy are. But according to the search engine giant, exceptions to this policy are in cases of public interest or newsworthy.
It appears that the policy will not meet demand unless the person in the image is currently 18 years of age and under, The Verge said. So if now a 30 year old user asks to delete an image when he is 15 it won't be possible.
Google insists removing an image from search results certainly doesn't remove it from the web. The company asks users to contact the webmaster directly.
In addition to the child image removal option, Google also has a way to request the removal of harmful content. Includes non-consensual explicit images, fake pornography, financial or medical information. Doxing criteria are also included in it, including information on home addresses and telephone numbers.
