Google Satire to Qualcomm When Release Pixel 6

One thing that's really new on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is that Google is no longer using Qualcomm's system on a chip (SoC) and switching to Tensor which they designed themselves.

This step by Google, which chose to use its own chip, was previously insinuated (or rather threatened) by Qualcomm. Well, then Google also responded to the threat by insinuating Qualcomm.

Of course, Google did not mention Qualcomm explicitly in the satire. However, from the sentences uttered by Rick Osterloh, boss of Google Devices and Services, and Monika Gupta, Google Product Manager, it is very clear that Qualcomm is the one in question.

"The Tensor chip is specifically designed to take advantage of the latest AI power directly on mobile devices. This is an area that has stuck with us for the past few years," concluded Osterloh.

Then Gupta said that the current mobile chips can't keep up with Google's research results, and Google doesn't want to just wait.

"Current mobile chips simply can't keep up with Google's research, and instead of waiting for them to catch up, we decided to build our own," said Gupta.

Why is this statement believed to be satirizing Qualcomm? Because before the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, all Pixel devices (and the majority of Nexus devices) used Qualcomm-made chips. Starting from the Snapdragon 765G used in the Pixel 5, to the Snapdragon 821 in the first generation Pixel.

Google is also 'defending' their choice to use a non-flagship SoC on the Pixel 5, whose performance in synthetic tests is certainly inferior to the flagship SoC. According to Google, peak CPU and GPU performance does look good in benchmarks, but doesn't always reflect performance when used directly.

"For example Pixel 5, Google's software provides a great experience, even though the chip doesn't win in benchmarks. But make no mistake, Tensor's CPU and GPU are much faster than all Pixels ever. But what's most important now is the new experience that Google can bring Tensor, which we could never give before," added Gupta.
