Natural Startups Apply 4 Working Days to Maintain Mental Health

Microsoft Japan has implemented a four-day working system, the result is not only increased productivity, electricity consumption has also decreased. Similar efforts have been carried out by fintech startup Alami.

They tested the implementation of 4 working days a week. So that employees are expected to take advantage of Friday to worship, do hobbies and provide more time to rest with family.

"We see employees as more than just numbers in operational reports. They are human beings who also have various needs in life. In the end, everyone is not only looking for a living, experience and career in the workplace, but also seeing what the company does that can enrich the quality of life. their lives," said Dima, CEO of Alami

The steps taken by Alami refer to the results of the Harvard Business Review research in 2019. It was stated that 64% of leaders from companies that had implemented the 4-day work program reported an increase in staff productivity and work quality as seen in reduced absenteeism and an increase in overall welfare.

"There are various problems in everyone's life, such as health problems, finances, safety, family at home, and of course no one wants their work to be a source of additional stress. Companies must take the initiative, because stress can have a negative impact on workers and also the company," explained Dima

Dima's concern is a concern shared by many other entrepreneurs in the world. The pandemic that has lasted for the past 18 months has had a devastating impact on the mental health of millions of workers worldwide.

Companies are required to improve quality and productivity in order to compete professionally in addition to maintaining a healthy financial flow, which often corners companies to make production cost efficiency, including termination of employment. Indirectly, this situation forces workers to work faster, improve skills and often overrides its impact on their physical and mental health.

This pressure on work is also weighing on workers amid their struggles to adapt to remote work patterns, social isolation, fears of exposure to the virus and the economic burden in the midst of a storm of recession and a situation full of uncertainty.

This then resulted in several problems related to the company's resources, some of which were a drastic increase in burnout rates, high absenteeism rates, low productivity and morale, and high employee turnover.

In many parts of the world, the number of resignations has increased significantly. Even in the United States, more than 4 million people have resigned since April 2021, so this phenomenon is referred to as the "Great Resignation".

"This step is included in our efforts to develop into a company that has a broad social impact on the people. Not only through innovation in our services and products, but also the elements closest to our daily lives, namely all employees who make innovations. it becomes real," said Dima.

"We hope that with the implementation of the 4 working day program along with the programs provided at Alami, employees can work happier, and physically and mentally are healthier, which in turn will increase productivity and morale," he concluded.
