Netflix Will Edit Phone Numbers That Appear in Squid Game


Because of Netflix, a South Korean woman was inundated with thousands of phone calls and text messages after her phone number appeared in an episode of the popular drama series Squid Game that aired on Netflix.

Due to this incident, Netflix and local production house Siren Pictures announced that they would edit the scene to remove the phone number that appeared.

"Together with the production company, we are working to resolve this issue including editing the scene showing the phone number," Netflix said.

Netflix also asked viewers or Squid Game fans not to call or send prank messages to this number.

To note, this scene appeared in the first episode of Squid Game entitled "The Day the Mugunghwa Bloomed". In that episode there was a scene where Kihoon (Lee Jungjae) called the number written on the business card from an unknown man (Gong Yoo).

The business card has a total of 8 digits excluding 010, the number is intended for potential Squid Game participants and instructed to call to participate.

After the broadcast, the owner of this phone number complained that his life was disturbed. He was constantly contacted via the number he had used for 10 years.

"I've been receiving calls and texts non-stop, to the point that it's hard for me to go about my daily activities," she said.

South Korea's national television and radio station SBS also revealed the identity of the owner of the phone number was known to be a woman named Kim Gil-Young who has a business in the southeastern area of ​​Seongju.

The Squid Game series was released on Netflix on September 17, 2021, this drama tells the story of people who participate in a mysterious game to win the prize of 45.6 billion KRW or around Rp. 553 billion.

But in return, they must risk their lives to become the ultimate victor. After its release, "Squid Game" became the first Korean series to occupy the top spot on Netflix's "Today's Top 10", and rose to the top spot in 40 countries worldwide.
