Gojek and Gogoro announced a strategic partnership for two-wheeled electric vehicles in Indonesia. There are 250 electric motorbikes or Smartscooters circulating in Jakarta.
This partnership includes the Private Investment in Public Equity (PIPE) scheme and the collaboration of Gojek, Gogoro, and Pertamina through a battery swap pilot scheme and a Gogoro Smartscooter vehicle trial in Jakarta.
For information, Gogoro is a battery swap ecosystem technology company from Taiwan. Gogoro supports urban mobility in a smarter and more sustainable way.
For now, 250 Gogoro Smartscooters are in Jakarta and four GoStation battery swap stations will be located at Pertamina gas stations. Together, the companies involved plan to increase the trial to 5,000 electric two-wheeled vehicles and bring in more battery swap stations.
"The partnership between Gojek and Gogoro unites two companies with the same vision and thoughts for the adoption of electric vehicles as the preferred mode of transportation in Indonesia. This ambition can only be achieved through the cooperation of various stakeholders," said Gojek Co-Founder and CEO, Kevin Aluwi in press release, Tuesday (2/11/2021).
Meanwhile, Gogoro's Founder and CEO, Horace Luke said, one of the biggest challenges for Indonesia and the world today is transforming the mode of transportation from the city to a new generation of transportation, such as electric vehicles.
"Battery swap from Gogoro is the latest innovation in electric refueling. We present an open platform to support two-wheeled vehicle manufacturers in introducing electric vehicles that can refuel quickly, safely, and easy to use," he said.

GoTo Investment in Gogoro
In September 2021, GoTo invested in PIPE funding in connection with the business combination of Gogoro and Poema Global Holdings Corp. This transaction is targeted for completion in early 2022.
GoTo is a joint venture or merger between Gojek and Tokopedia which now acts as their parent company.
Kevin explained GoTo's investment into the Gogoro pocket as an effort to become a carbon-neutral platform and transition to 100% electric two-wheeled vehicles by 2030
"By combining Gojek's broad reach in Indonesia and Gogoro's capabilities, we can accelerate change and share the benefits of electric vehicles with more driver partners and consumers," said Kevin.
