Indonesia Can Become King of the World Digital Economy, Beat China

Indonesia has the potential to become the king of the digital economy beating China. This is revealed by several sources. One of them is Vikram Sinha Director & CCO Indosat Ooredoo who believes that the digital economy is a necessity.

According to him, the development of the digital economy has now occurred, and Indonesia has the strength and technology that is capable of building public connectedness with the internet.

"President Jokowi has a big map and also policies to make it happen. Signal connections and others must collaborate to create Indonesia as the largest digital market in Asia or even in the world, Indonesia has great potential," he said at the Indosat Ooredoo Talk event.

Indosat and partners themselves have done a lot of development to help realize the government's mission. Starting in 2019, for example, Indosat has built infrastructure for the 5G network.

"We can talk about Gojek, the digital economy must be able to invite many people to collaborate and provide value to the country and society," continued Vikram.

"You don't have to go far, two years ago before the pandemic hit, I talked to parents, usually they do shopping directly at the store but I saw them becoming more online. The launch of 5G Indosat yesterday, I was able to see goods through virtual reality, see and choose their own batik. This has happened. More and more can be done with technology," he said.

Indonesia is indeed fiercely building a digital economy. The results are proven through several researches and forecasts from experts, one of which is Google which projects the value of Indonesia's digital economy to reach USD 146 billion by 2025. This figure is higher than the initial prediction of 'only' USD 124 billion.
