Samsung Shares a Vision for Modern Banks and Hospitals Using Its Current Ecosystem

Last Wednesday in Hanoi, I was invited to view several new B2B laundry products, as well as new features added to smart refrigerators via a Tizen update. In the same exhibition space, I was also given a look at a vision for modern banking and hospital environments that leverage Samsung’s existing technology.

Samsung’s technology is rarely associated with commercial spaces, as the brand is far better known within the consumer sector.

S Bank

The “S Bank” vision space showcased how tablets, phones, TVs, and displays can be used to enhance the customer experience.

It begins with a tablet capable of verifying a customer’s identity by tapping their ID card against an NFC-enabled system. This verification process is faster than using a physical ID card or conventional chip-reading systems. Transactions can then be authorized by having the customer provide a signature on the tablet screen using an S Pen.

During consultations, bank staff can mirror content from their phones or tablets directly onto a TV screen running Tizen OS, utilizing the wireless DeX system. Information regarding investment schemes, stock data, and loan portfolios can be displayed on a large TV screen, allowing customers to view the details more clearly.

Finally, Samsung offers wall-mountable e-ink displays for showcasing advertisements related to banking services. Because they use e-ink technology, these displays do not require a constant power connection; the built-in battery can last for 300 days before needing a recharge. Advertisements can be updated wirelessly via Samsung’s software, eliminating the need for banks to print and manually replace physical posters on their walls.

S Hospital

Samsung’s tablets, smartwatches, and smart TVs can also be utilized within hospital environments. Doctors use the Tab Active 5 Pro tablet to locally access a patient’s personal medical history, laboratory test reports, and notes from other physicians. With its water- and dust-resistant, rugged design, the Tab Active 5 Pro is well-suited for use in a hospital environment without the risk of damage.

Patients can wear a Galaxy Watch during their treatment, allowing for the monitoring of metrics such as heart rate, ECG readings, irregular heart rhythms, blood oxygen levels, blood pressure, and more. This data is monitored in real-time and stored directly in the cloud, where it can then be accessed by doctors via their tablets.

Meanwhile, smart TVs in patient rooms allow content from a mobile phone to be cast directly onto the screen. Anyone who has stayed in a hospital knows that entertainment options are often limited—content is frequently low-resolution, and streaming services like Netflix or YouTube are difficult to access. With Tizen OS-powered smart TVs, enjoying such content during treatment becomes effortless.

Finally, much like the setup at S Bank, doctors can utilize wireless DeX to display information to patients on the same TV screen. Physicians can present X-rays, CT scans, and laboratory reports, which they can then explain directly to the patient.

All of these features already exist; they simply require implementation by the relevant institutions—such as banks or hospitals—to be put into use.
