Madonna's Nipple Case, Here's a List of Instagram-Prohibited Content

Singer Madonna protested against Instagram deleting her post due to exposed nipples. Let's look again at the rules for creating content on Instagram.

The furor between Madonna and Instagram began when Instagram deleted a photo of the 63-year-old singer because some of her nipples were exposed. Then on Thursday (18/11) yesterday, Madonna reposted the photo.

The difference is, Madonna added a heart emoji to cover her exposed nipples. Reporting from Mashable as seen on Tuesday (11/30/2021), this repost was accompanied by criticism from Madonna to Instagram.

"It's as if this is the only part of the female anatomy that can be sexualized. Nipples are for feeding babies. Why are male nipples not considered erotic? Why are women's butts never censored everywhere," protested Madonna.

To CNN, Meta as the parent of Instagram said it would remove photos that violate the rules, regardless of who posted them. Whether it's an artist or an ordinary person, the treatment is the same.

"We understand that not everyone agrees with our limits. Our rules are designed to help people of all ages be safe on our apps, while giving as much room as possible for expression," says Meta.

Based on the Community Guidelines on Instagram, here's their list of prohibited content:

1. Violating intellectual property rights (IPR)

Instagram encourages users to post their own photos. Do not post photos that we do not have the right to post.

2. Inappropriate image

Instagram prohibits nude images from circulating on its platform, including sexual scenes, genitals, close-ups of women's bottoms and nipples. However, there are some exceptions to this.

Photos of breast removal surgery wounds and photos of women who are breastfeeding. Nude content in the form of paintings and sculptures is also an exception.

3. Spam

Creating or sending emails, comments, likes, or other forms of communication of a commercial or harassing nature is prohibited on Instagram.

4. Illegal content

Instagram prohibits content that refers to terrorism, criminal organizations or hate groups. Offering sexual services, selling firearms, and selling illegal drugs is done on Instagram.

5. Hate speech, bullying, and harassment

Instagram also prohibits posts and comments that contain threats of violence, hate speech and individual targeting from happening on its platform. SARA, gender, sexual orientation, disability or disease content is also prohibited.

6. Hurt yourself

Instagram does not allow content that glorifies or promotes self-injury, including eating disorders, to circulate on its platform.

7. Contains violence

Instagram prohibits violent content from circulating on its platform to make their platform viable for everyone.

However, if the content is related to important events or news, and is uploaded to raise awareness and educate, then Instagram provides an exception, as long as the user warns that the content contains violence.
