Intel's innovation in the Alder Lake processor line turned out to make a number of games unplayable. Here is a list of the games.
What's new in Alder Lake is the use of cores at different speeds, similar to the BIG.little scheme on ARM. So there are fast cores and energy efficient cores in one processor.
In terms of gaming performance, Alder Lake can also provide meaningful competition for AMD's Ryzen line. But games like Assassin's Creed: Valhalla can't be played on an Alder Lake-based system, because they can't be unlocked at all.
According to Intel this is due to a Digital Rights Management (DRM) issue, which recognizes efficient cores in Alder Lake (E-cores) as a distinct system. This will prevent the game from launching, or if it does, the game will crash while playing.
Intel also released a list of games affected by the DRM problem in Alder Lake. Oh yes, the list of games is longer if the user is still using Windows 10 and not Windows 11.
They will also release a patch for Windows 11 in mid-November. Also working with game developers to improve other games.
Before the patch was released by Intel, there was an emergency way to fix this problem. That is by turning on Legacy Game Compatibility Mode, which will temporarily turn off E-cores in Alder Lake while playing games. Here's how.
